First blow dirt from gas bottle before connecting regulator, this is the most common cause of failure.
Before operating gun, carefully read instructions, connect regulator into cylinder and hose to regulator (left hand thread). Turn on the gas and slowly depress the excess flow check valve to charge the system with gas. Now inspect hose and connections for leaks. Point the gun towards a clear area of the floor and squeeze the trigger slowly. It is possible that the gun will ignite with only one small squeeze of the trigger, especially if it is warm and the operator has had a small amount of practice. The trigger must be depressed to maintain the flame.
A regular drop of oil (Tellus 37 or equivalent) put into the valve at the hose connection will greatly extend valve life.
Maintenance must only be carried out by an experienced gas fitter.
DO NOT
hold the gun in a vertical position when shrinking the top surface of an object as rising heat can cause an unstable flame |
Warning - Safety Checks.
Fault Finding Chart.
| Problem | Probable Cause |
| Gun not firing | Gas supply not on. Excess flow check valve not primed. Damaged electrode. Gas valve adjustment screw not operating plunger. Defective spark generator. Earth strip on spark generator not touching barrel. |
| Gas has yellow flame | Gas pressure too low. Dirt in barrel. Blocked jet. Gas leak in body. Blocked valve. Iced supply. |
| Large flame | Too high pressure. Too large jet. Blocked or damaged mixer. |
| Constant gas | Gas valve adjustment screw tight against plunger. Sticky valve |
